Do you believe some one could care deeply enough that they could deny salvation?

for themselves to give a less fortunate person a shot at a second chance at life. Or do you believe it is every man for himself? Would 'God' be dismayed, bewildered over this choice to give salvation to a stranger or would he be approving of the idea? I rather believe it would be deserving of consideration since it falls in line with his philosophy!
